UNESCO created World Book day in 1995 as a worldwide celebration of reading. Spending just ten minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their future success and it’s fun for all involved.
This year, the message for all children is ‘develop a passion for reading.’
Children arrived at school wearing their pyjamas and bringing their favourite book to share in class. The day has been filled with lots of exciting activities, including reading by torchlight, a Zoom with author Swapna Haddow and illustrator Sheena Dempsey plus a visit to the library. During the day, children have engaged in discussion about stories and have celebrated the joy of reading for pleasure.
