Event - Year 5 Spirit and Sport Day

3 July 2018

On Tuesday 3rd July, children from Year 5 spent the day at St Edmund Campion School for their annual 'Spirit and Sport' day.

A number of local Catholic schools joined us for a day of taster lessons, a celebration Mass and an afternoon of sport in the sunshine!

In the morning, we were split into groups with children from other schools to enjoy a range of taster lessons, including dance, art, music, Spanish, making and launching rockets - to name just a few.

After this, we joined with everyone to practise hymns, before celebrating Mass together. Children were chosen to take part in the Mass and we all enjoyed a joyful celebration. We then ate our lunch with our friends.

On finishing lunch, we headed over to the nearby playing fields, where we were split into groups to compete against the other schools. A team of children took part in a range of Athletics events, including 400m run, 100m sprint, javelin, shot put, long jump and a relay race. The other groups of children played in rounders and 'end ball' tournaments.

To end the day, there was an awards ceremony to congratulate all the children on their great efforts and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. We had a great day and this gave us an insight into the life of St Edmund Campion.
