Event - Year 2 at the Nature Centre

10 June 2016

What a wonderful day we had at Birmingham conservation park.

The teacher Julie took us around the park to see different animals in their enclosures. Julie explained that each enclosure is made to be like the animal's natural habitat. We watched the otters and porcupines being fed. We went inside the moonlight house where we saw lots of nocturnal animals.

We watched the turtles swimming in the pond and basking on the logs. We talked about animal diets and used the words herbivore, carnivore and omnivore.

In the afternoon we went into the forest area and hunted for mini beasts. We found spiders, centipedes and wood lice. Julie told us to pick the mini beasts up carefully and we had to put them back where we found them. Later on back in the special classroom, we observed some stuffed animals.

It was a most enjoyable day and we will continue our learning back at school as we continue with this topic.

Our guide, Julie showed us around the Nature Centre.
