History of St. Gerard's

St. Gerard's Primary School opened on the Feast of St. George 23rd April, 1968 adjacent to St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Castle Vale.

The First Headteacher was Mr George who retired in 1992 and was replaced by Miss B Peel until 2005. Mr D Hird was Headteacher from 2005 to 2017, and Mrs Buck to 2019. Mr Crehan is our current Headteacher.

For fifty years, St Gerard's School has been a place of love and learning inspired by St Gerard Majella and guided by the teachings of Jesus

50th Anniversary Celebrations

Our 50th anniversary celebrations were held in 2018, and included:

  • A special Mass at St Gerard's Church led by Bishop Byrne, followed by a coffee morning for guests including past staff and pupils.
  • Picnic and disco.
  • Whole school photograph.
  • Classroom parties and quiz.
  • Art projects based on artists from the last five decades.

40th Anniversary Celebrations

Our 40th anniversary celebrations were held in 2008, and included:

  • A special Mass at St. Gerard's Church.
  • 40 balloons released in the playground.
  • A whole school visit to Drayton Manor.
  • A special school disco.
