Year 4

Welcome to Year 4. The teacher in this class is Mrs Davies and our teaching assistant is Mrs Breen.

Each day we study Mathematics, English (speaking and listening, reading, writing and spelling). We also study Religion, Science, Computing, Physical Education including swimming, Art, Design Technology, Geography, History, Spanish, Music and Singing (including an opportunity to learn to play the recorder; children can purchase their own recorder from school so they can practise at home), Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship Education. These subjects are often taught in blocks.

Reading books need to be in school every day and will usually be changed on Tuesday. Please try to read every night with your child and to fill in the reading diary at least twice a week. You can share writing in the reading diary with your child. You may also write about books from home or the library. We will collect in reading diaries every Monday. We value the comments and they help us select books for your child or guide their own choice.

Homework is given out weekly on Friday; it is usually Mathematics, English or topic based. The homework is expected to be completed and returned to school on the following Wednesday.

Spellings are given out on Fridays, please practise at home for spelling tests on the following Friday. Please return the spelling sheets to school on the day of the test.

During the year, trips will be arranged to support and extend work across the curriculum.
